Ryan is an ARC Future Fellow and the discipline lead for mathematics and statistics at Curtin. His work focuses on using advanced mathematics to optimise complex processes in a wide range of applications such as mining, oil and gas, agriculture, and industrial process control. Ryan is a passionate advocate for industry engagement and has worked with many companies including Woodside Energy, Linkforce, Fleetcare, and Vekta Automation. Ryan leads the optimisation theme 3

Ryan's research interests lie in the areas of optimisation, optimal control, and data science.

• Online article in Curtin's R&D Now magazine on vessel scheduling optimisation with Woodside.
• Online article on torque control for Tensa Equipment's Roborigger auto-rotator crane device.
• YouTube video on joint work with Linkforce on shutdown maintenance optimisation. This project won the main prize at the 2016 Curtin Commercial Innovation Awards and ultimately led to the Quantum software technology for tracking, executing, and optimising maintenance shutdowns in the resources sector. Quantum later won the 2017 South32 Designing for Excellence Innovation Award.
